This training is organised to provide trainees with a theoretical, experimental and professional educational framework in the field of biosourced composites.

The lessons are broken down into thematic periods, with cross-sector and theoretical contributions according to a life-cycle analysis (LCA) approach.

Biosourced materials including wood and its derivatives, combined with the tools available in our training facilities (workshops, labs), enable the training to encompass design and implementation (prototyping) dimensions.

The diversity of trainee profiles (employees, students, foreigners) and the project-based instruction method promote learning through action, interdisciplinarity and the emergence of eco-innovation.

UE 1 – Sector and resources (2 ECTS credits)

  • Introduction to the circular economy, eco-design cycle.
  • Overview of biosourced resources for composites: production and characteristics.
  • Presentation of sectors of interest: transport, packaging, furnishing, fitting, construction.
  • Company visits.

UE 2 – Bioresource materials and process (4 ECTS credits)

  • Understand techniques and processes for manufacturing composites.
  • Define the role and influence of the physico-chemical and mechanical parameters of composites in product applications.
  • Understand the materials contained in biosourced composites.

UE 3 – Innovation, design and professional project (4 ECTS credits)

  • What are innovations and innovation initiatives?
  • What is design and the related concepts?
  • Develop a first vision of your professional project in connection with eco-innovation.

UE 4 – Transport (8 ECTS credits)

  • Understand the challenges of using lighter materials in the transport sector.
  • Understand the various composite processing methods.
  • Cross-sector contributions: collaborative innovation and project management

UE 5 – Packaging (8 ECTS credits)

  • Understand the challenges of ageing materials in the packaging sector (and luxury industries).
  • Take into account the principles of degradation and recycling.
  • Cross-sector contributions: incremental innovation and knowledge engineering

UE 6 – Preparation for the professional thesis (2 ECTS credits)

  • Define the topic and context of the mission to be completed as part of your professional thesis.
  • Initiate contact with a network in line with your project.

UE 7 – Furniture and fittings (8 ECTS credits)

  • Understand issues relating to biosourced composites in furnishing and fitting (sport and leisure).
  • Imagine finishing solutions for this type of product.
  • Cross-sector contributions: breakthrough innovation (design thinking, optimisation) and design-to-cost.

UE 8 – Construction and external uses (8 ECTS credits)

  • Discover composites in the construction sector, in particular composites made with wood or natural fibres
  • Imagine the role and nature of biosourced composites as well as possible developments and applications.
  • Cross-sector contributions: breakthrough innovation (C-K theory) and societal transition.

UE 9 – Business innovation (1 ECTS credits)

  • Finalise specifications for the mission and objectives meeting the course’s and company’s expectations.
  • Incorporate innovation and eco-design objectives into your company project on biosourced composites.

UE 10 – Professional thesis (30 ECTS credits)

The professional thesis is intended to validate the trainee’s knowledge in the area of eco-innovative project management, whether industrial or research-oriented.

After gaining an understanding of the topic and environment, the trainee will have to collect and analyse information required to carry out the project.

The trainee will calculate the cost of his/her proposals and plan their implementation.
